The last thing you want to feel in any business partnership is that you’re just another number. Especially when that relationship is with your accountant. When the team at FWL began to feel they were simply in a transactional relationship, they knew it was time to look for a new accountant and business adviser.

The last decade has been a boom time for any Cantabrian working in the construction sector, up until recently, that is. We spoke with Operations Manager and Director Adam Ward from FWL about how they appointed Leech & Partners, to help navigate their way through uncharted territory.

FWL specialise in concrete foundation construction, excavation and demolition. They’re the guys that prepare the site before the vertical work begins. “We get people out of the ground and if we don’t get right, then the whole project is held up,” Adam told us.

The Problem.

There was just one problem. The accounting team that should have been giving FWL proactive advice weren’t up to scratch according to Adam. “We weren’t really getting any personal service. We knew we had to do something,” Adam added. “So, we got referred to Chris Smith at Leech & Partners. Since then he’s been really involved in our month-to-month, and long-range planning.”

Planning Ahead.

Chris has helped Adam and his team streamline their operations. He understands what the  company is doing, where they are heading. “He helps with management reporting and general management of the company. – looking at the here and now. But he’s also helping us with long-term planning,” said Adam, “Chris is always pushing us to plan for what’s coming.”

What's Next?

FWL has been in business for seven years. How do they see the outlook moving forward? “It’s been gradual growth for the business. Now that the earthquake work is gone, Chris’ advice has helped us grow steadily, solidly, and move through into a normal market.”
